Save Australian Pines

Eileen Soler's Feb. 21 story, Bird-lovers gawk at eagle nest in Pembroke Pines, was a great read. However, it left out the most fascinating aspect of the story: The tree chosen by the native bald eagles for the first successful nest in Broward County since 1972 is a nonnative 'invasive' Australian pine.
Florida's scientific experts and politicians have been killing these trees for more than two decades, pouring deadly chemical herbicides into our soil, threatening plant, animal and human life. It's time for Florida to stop spending our money to harm our environment and kill trees that shelter native wildlife amid all the concrete and manicured lawns.
