Outdoor surf, fish fun trips plentiful
Take advantage of low gas prices
BY MATT BADOLATO

Now that the price of a gallon of gas is equal to that of a bottle of soda, allow me to suggest to you, my fellow outdoorsmen and women, some ways to take advantage of this opportunity. The possibilities are endless.

Here are some ideas:

Like hiking through Florida's wilderness? Well, stop trudging down the same old trails. Take a road trip and explore new places across the state. Check out www.floridatrail.org for maps and info on trailheads all around the state.

Take a long boat trip. The cooler temperatures and mild weather make this the perfect time of year for a venture up or down the Intracoastal Waterway. Any size boat will do, just plan on stopping for more fuel en route.

Take a really long boat trip. Wintertime means great fishing throughout the Bahamas, especially for good numbers of big, tasty wahoo. Make sure you purchase a Bahamas fishing license at customs when you arrive.

Ever seen the movie "Endless Summer?" Have yourself an "Endless Winter" and go on an East Coast surf trip. Stuff some boards and some buddies in a van and hit the road.

Watch the sun set over the ocean. Make a day trek over to Florida's West Coast and stay until evening. Pull over alongside the water and picnic under some Australian pines or spend the day on the Gulf seeking out some fish.
